A film featuring a Gurkha war hero based in Reading and supported by an award-winning director is preparing for its global debut in London’s Leicester Square.
Titled “Gurkha Warrior” and directed by the acclaimed Milan Chams, the film unravels an untold episode from the Malaya Emergency, in which Gurkhas fought alongside the British Army. This compelling narrative draws inspiration from a genuine account handed down through the families of survivors who took part in the original mission.
Remarkably, the director, executive producer, and lead actor are all former Gurkhas. Milan Chams, the director, emphasized, “This is a narrative that must be shared with the world before it vanishes into the annals of history.”
When discussing the selection of Ritesh Chams as the lead actor, Milan Chams noted, “I wanted an authentic Gurkha to portray the character in this story. During our research, we engaged with the families of former soldiers who served during that period to breathe life into this incredible tale.”
The film vividly portrays the distinctive history and culture of the Gurkhas through an extraordinary narrative of love, sacrifice, and survival.
The film’s launch is a collaboration with four charitable organizations, with proceeds directed towards Film + TV Charity, The Gurkha Museum, Walking with the Wounded, and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Lead actor Ritesh Chams expressed his gratitude, saying, “Being a part of this film provides viewers with a glimpse into the bravery, integrity, loyalty, and honor that define the Gurkhas.”
Mark your calendars for the international premiere of the film on September 10th, taking place at IMAX Cineworld in Leicester Square, London. The film will subsequently hit cinemas on November 10th.
